I had the most lovely day out with an old friend of mine. With us was her most gorgeous daughter who is still young. School age but young. I love spending time with them and today is no different. I love it it because her daughter is inquisitive, sassy and alive. but to my friend she tells me she is too sensitive.
‘She is so sensitive just like I was at her age.’ I look and I think this is not a child that is too sensitive. She is beyond sassy, full of life and curious. but I listen because I am curious how she has come to this conclusion.
‘What makes you think you were sensitive?’ I wonder.
‘My mum used to tell me this all the time,’ she said.
‘So your mum thought you were too sensitive?’
‘Yes, it’s funny how patterns repeat themselves,’ she reflected.
Now as you can imagine I was beyond confused. My friend was not too sensitive and neither was this little girl. They were both wonderful.
Her daughter was curious, and so observant. She noticed everything, down to what I was wearing, the difference between us all, and everything in between She wanted to know everything.
I loved it because she was seeing difference and questioning it. She wanted to know why I had the lunch I had, why we were different and she was not accepting any old answer.
She also wanted some level control which was not confusing because as children we all need some level of control and mastery of our own lives.
She needed to be heard and understood, non of which was too sensitive or confusing. So I was beyond curious. How had my friend come to this conclusion. this belief that she was carrying around inside of her and was now telling this story for her daughter.

Words and beliefs that we hear and take on for ourselves that come from others can be what we believe as our truth.
Especially when they start at such a young age and the words come from our parents and with such conviction. They get ingrained into our systems.
But I did not see either of them this way. It is funny what we take on and how we perceive ourselves and others and how patterns get repeated because we see them as our truth.
For me we can never be too sensitive. We are simply saying how we feel or who we are.
Maybe the environment is not the right dial to receive the message that we have. Maybe the environment cannot hear what we are trying to say, or understand but how can we be too sensitive? It does just not make sense. We listen, we understand and we are heard.
What I understood the most was how this belief was being handed down. Her daughter was so inquisitive and she always made sure I came good on my promise, which she should do. She always held me accountable. something I truly loved her for.
She didn’t shy away, she came back making sure I remembered.. which I always did, but I loved the fact that she did too. She wasn’t too much or too sensitive. But I totally understood my friend too.
‘She feels so comfortable around you,’ my friend told me. I can tell she feels comfortable.’
So comfortable that the last time I saw them, her daughter turned her back on me and didn’t even want to say goodbye. Making me feel like I was her worst enemy.
Honestly I laugh so much at this but that makes me love her even more, because she has the courage to do just that. She did what felt right in the moment to her. She wasn’t being too sensitive, she was just being her lovely self.
Yes it is easy for me to say this because I am not her mum, but I can see the bigger picture.
I honestly love her daughter with all my heart because she is her “self’, and a very wise person told me recently, from beyond the grave… Quote..”Unless you’re totally you/yourself… then no one else can really understand ‘you”. So just be you. I will write a post on how I came to hear from the grave but it felt like it needed to be here in this post.
When we are not understood because someone else does not understand themselves, this just causes confusion and beliefs about ourselves that are just not true.
What causes us not to know ours ‘self’ and causes confusion? The confusion of others and emotions that are not understood.
I wonder if my friend’s mother was ever thought of as too sensitive or too much? Where does this belief come from?
Usually from someone that is unable to process their emotions and then they believe that others are too much or too sensitive, rather than looking within.
What makes us unable to process our emotions when the environment thinks we are too sensitive or too much.? I wonder.
It is just heartbreaking though that we take on these beliefs as if they are real. Like it is a bad thing. Being sensitive is a great thing.. it means we are connected, curious, listening, and in a frequency dial that is just right.
Over the last 25 years I have worked with so many women and children but the message has always been the same, no matter what was being presented. All the children and women were unable to communicate in words how they truly felt. Their symptoms and behaviours were then deemed too much, or not enough.
Children that were terrified of being abandoned or left, not feeling safe or protected, or not heard, all displaying it in their behaviour, until I could hear their language.
All of them being able to communicate what they needed. The families were normal families, parents that really cared about their children, but they could not understand them.
Women that were desperate to fix their children or fix themselves, but nobody could interpret the language of the soul, what they really needed, and instead they were deemed too sensitive, or naughty.
I became a translator and soon discovered these children were scared, because the environment did not speak their language. I remember one child, just beaming, saying, ‘You speak my language.’
I knew what she meant, because I could hear her soul and suddenly she felt truly seen and heard. We didn’t speak in words, we spoke in the language of the soul.
But what I also discovered was this frequency that parents had was also being passed down to the child. So children that had fears and could not be understood were the same fears and feelings that the parents had. The patterns were being passed down without even realising it.
What I discovered in all those years was something truly magical. People didn’t need fixing they needed to be heard from the soul. They didn’t need to be understood from the role they were playing or had adopted. They need to find their ‘self.’
One child told her family, ‘I don’t feel well in this family.’ Simply because they could not understand her. They could not see her. That did not make her too sensitive. It just meant somewhere was an environment and a mother who didn’t know the language and had never been seen in this way herself.
Helping women to be at the centre of their lives so they show up in all areas of their life without confusion is what lights me up. I love being able to help women connect to their soul so they can live meaningful lives with purpose and clarity.
Love these moments together.
